It all started in a Wal-Mart parking lot when Pastor Jon gave a Bible and a couple of hamburgers to a homeless man who was on the corner. Jon felt the Lord leading him to take an old backpack and fill it with essential items such as food, water, toiletries, winter clothing, blankets, a Bible and some salvation tracts. He went downtown the next two days, and found a homeless man to give it to. It was then, as the man thanked him with tear-filled eyes that he realized just how much impact this could have. So he went to a thrift store and purchased 9 more backpacks, filled them and went back to the same corner in downtown; to find more than 100 homeless people standing in a soup line. He connected with his church and other individuals and handed out more than 60 backpacks during the first month, along with dozens of bags of clothing, socks, underwear, blankets, and other items. He decided to call it Luke 4:18. This scripture reads as follows:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed.
Luke 4:18 Missions is committed to feeding, clothing, and preaching the good news those whom society has forgotten.
